Cases of Influenza, Victoria, 2011-2014
This graph presents the number of notified cases of laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza in Victoria from 2011 to 2014.
Each year, there was a spike in confirmed cases, which began in July and lasted until October. The highest spike can be seen in the months of July, August and September. This coincided with winter when people were more likely to be spending time indoors. The number of infected cases during the winter had also increased each year. In 2011, the peak number of infected cases was around 800 while in 2014, the peak number was just over 3000. This is a significant rise. On the other hand, we see in the months from January to June and November and December the number of infected cases have relatively low peaks and changes.
To sum up, the notified cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza by month in Victoria from 2011-2014 highlight the sudden rise in the number of infected cases from July to September.
