What is a Reflexive Pronoun?
Simply put, a reflexive pronoun is a type of pronoun that is used when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same entity. In other words, a reflexive pronoun reflects back to the subject of the sentence. It indicates that the action of the verb is being performed by the subject upon itself.
Reflexive pronouns in English include:
- Myself
- Yourself
- Himself
- Herself
- Itself
- Ourselves
- Yourselves
- Themselves
Here are a few examples of reflexive pronouns in sentences:
She washed herself before going to the party.
We taught ourselves how to play the guitar.
*However, reflexive pronouns are not to be confused with Relative Pronouns or Relative Clause.
